The mission of the Council is to enable adults, older youths, and families within the Washington, D.C., vicinity to solve problems they encounter in their daily lives and to participate in and contribute to their community. The Council is established solely for literacy and career improvement, charitable, and educational purposes.

The Metropolitan/Delta Adult Literacy Council, Inc., is a volunteer, non-profit, tax-exempt organization affiliated with Metropolitan Baptist Church, ProLiteracy America, and the Washington, D.C. Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
